The Weather

This is my first attempt at a blog entry and (how English) it's about the weather!

Yet another dry day on site at Blakeney.  We’ve been watering the newly-laid areas of lawn for nearly a month now.  The vagaries of weather in England!  Before Christmas we experienced weeks of continuous frost and snow, the site resembled a scene from Ice Station Zebra.  The first hour every day used to be spent exchanging stories of heroic battles against the elements just to reach the site, with regular accidents on hazardous roads.  We returned after the Xmas break bracing ourselves for a relentless continuation.  Naturally, the reverse occurred.

We have had hardly a day’s frost or rain between Christmas and Easter.  The biggest thing we’ve had to worry about recently has been sunburn.  Well… all of us except Phil the carpenter, who dashed off to Malaga for Easter for a bit of springtime sunshine, but on his arrival was met with a week of rain so severe it triggered landslides in the area!  He may even have been relieved to be back at work!

On a related note, you may have noticed a story in the EDP yesterday about the Deputy Prime Minister’s choice of holiday destination over Easter – Morston Hall, only a couple of minutes drive along the coast from Blakeney (where he is said to have enjoyed crab fishing with his children).  Fortunately, we don’t think his endorsement is likely to bring hordes flocking to visit this tranquil and unspoiled Norfolk town!
