Samphire Close
Picturesque and full of charming surprise, Blakeney lies at the northernmost point of the North Norfolk coast. Whether you are attracted by the unparalleled opportunities for coastal walks, the diverse array of wildlife, the vibrant sailing community, or just the famous Norfolk food and drink, Blakeney will not disappoint.
Perhaps the most unspoilt of Norfolk’s coastal villages, Blakeney’s quaint high street meanders down to the quay, the old fishermen’s cottages mingling with all the requirements of village life – from the popular deli and cafes to the vibrant Harbour Rooms, a focal point of the local community, with regular live music, to exclusive hotels, and a few refreshingly old-fashioned pubs.
From the Old English blacan (dark) and eg (promontory, or island), Blakeney has a long history with the sea. Hidden away behind the harbour itself, the 14th century guildhall, containing one of Britain’s earliest brick-vaulted ceilings, bears testament to Blakeney’s past prosperity, as one of the few ports in Britain allowed to trade in gold, silver, and horses. When England was threatened by the Spanish Armada in 1588, Blakeney and the surrounding area provided a remarkable 36 ships to the English navy.
The historic heart of Blakeney is filled with charming yards surrounded by terraced cottages, with houses and shops fronting immediately onto the main streets through the village. There is no space for residential development close to the sea. Samphire Close is therefore utterly unique in offering spacious, private, and strikingly modern houses, with gardens and parking, within a few minutes walk of the quay. Such an opportunity, in such a location, will surely not present itself again.
